VINARIA 2008 - a panorama of the vine and wine industry

01.04.2008
The newest trends, products and services in the vine-growing and winemaking industry are on display at VINARIA 2008. In previous years, wines and spirits have been in the highlights of the exposition, but now the event is already gaining recognition as a key trade exhibition of the vine and wine industry showcasing all segments.

The 16th International Exhibition VINARIA will be held on 26 – 29 March 2008 at the Fairground in Plovdiv. The exhibits of renowned Bulgarian and foreign companies comprise superior quality wine selections as well as the entire range of modern equipment and technologies. The largest event in the vine-growing and wine-producing sector in Central and Southeast Europe is organized by International Fair Plovdiv in partnership with the National Vine and Wine Chamber.

Exhibitors at VINARIA 2008 are 556 companies from 32 countries. The Bulgarian participants are 191, while the foreign companies total 365. Argentina, South Africa, France and Italy take part with official participations.

Among the countries with the greatest number of companies are Italy (155), France (72), Germany (44). The largest exhibition areas are occupied by foreign exhibitors from Italy, France and Germany. The exhibitors’ stands are allocated in the exhibition pavilions 10, 11, 13 and 7 as well as the surrounding open areas.

The Bulgarian winemakers present outstanding wine collections. Along with the classic wines, wineries come up with some modern wine blends of different grape varieties. Unique wine recipes and specific grape processing technologies contribute to the great wine assortment. The full range of the newest equipment and machinery for vine-growing and wine-producing sector, packaging equipment, services and information will be also presented at the event.

A growing international participation is registered from worldwide leading wine-producing countries such as France, Italy, Argentina and South Africa. This interest has been stirred up by two reasons. First, it relates to the reform in the EU wine market and second, VINARIA 2008 creates opportunities for cooperation with Bulgarian companies in joint projects in the vine and wine industry. For the implementation of such projects Bulgaria will receive 166 million euro from the European Union within a period of seven years.

The Bulgarian participation is also impressive, since national wine producers aim to establish their new brands in the market. Over the recent years, nearly 250 million euro have been invested in both vine-growing and wine-making sectors. That has resulted in the quality improvement of the Bulgarian wines, and VINARIA enhances the opportunities for their promotion.

The strong display of equipment and machinery for the vine-growing and wine-producing industry presented by companies offering equipment is related to the forthcoming start of the Rural Area Development Programme. This programme could also provide financing for 50% – 65% of the purchasing costs for vine-growing equipment and machinery.

Among the key events included in the Business Events Programme of VINARIA 2008 is the 5th High Level Conference on “Measures for Encouraging the Development of the Sector and Increasing the Marketing of Wine” with the participation of agricultural ministers from the countries of Southeast Europe. The conference is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Supply.

The awarding ceremony for the best Bulgarian wines and spirits competing in the National Tasting of Wines and Spirits held from 2 – 10 March 2008 will take place at the traditional promotion ball “Wine and Love, Love and Wine”.
